Dream Kitchen

When I bought this house of mine I didn’t have a man and two kids.  It was the perfect little house for little ol’ me.  Well, cut to a few years later, and the blonde and the brunette and the ECBF are a part of this household now and well… we’re outgrowing this place by leaps and bounds.  I love this house and more importantly, this neighbourhood.  We all do.  I can’t imagine a better place for the guys to grow up and I can’t bear to leave it.  The house is perfectly fine, just small, and the lot it’s on is huge… so… we’ve decided to undertake a giant renovation.  I know, right?  There’s something wrong with me for thinking this is a good idea.  Everyone is telling me to just go and find another house.  But I want this house, I just want this house to be better.

We hired an architect to draw up our plans – and after several meetings it appears as though we’re adding a few hundred square feet to (errr, please don’t be jealous about this) THE KITCHEN!

It makes sense.  We spend all of our time in there.  And both the ECBF and I love to putter around the kitchen, it just, ummm, doesn’t fit both of us at the same time.  So…the reno is definitely going to fix that.

Despite the fact that I can do whatever I want in this new huge space I’m creating, I’m still very aware of the fact that I have two (ok, three) messy boys living here, and it hasn’t taken me long to figure out that boys break things.  They don’t even have to try to break things, they just break.  Or get scratched.  Or dented.  Or melted.  Or sticky.  Or all of the above.  Ick. Ick. Ick.  So… I’ve made the executive decision to put in a cost-efficient IKEA kitchen.  I found a layout I like, cabinets that are perfectly fine, and with the addition of a higher end countertop, I think it will suit us just nicely until I can re-do the kitchen ONE MORE TIME, after the boys move out (just the blonde and brunette, the ECBF isn’t allowed to go anywhere).  A ten- to fifteen-year plan for a kitchen, that makes sense, doesn’t it?

Please, tell me what you think?  Not about the fuzzy pictures, I can’t really explain how my skills are actually regressing.
